Ways To Protect Yourself From Rising Crime In Florida

Florida crime is on the rise. As with any area of the US, citizens have to start protecting themselves. Florida’s population has boomed, due to its weather and beach access. More and more US citizens are seeing it as the perfect place to reside. Studies have shown that due to the rise in populace crime rates are rising too.

Though this is not cause to relocate, it is cause for concern. Here are some ways everyone can protect themselves from the burgeoning Florida crime increase:

1)            Install a security system. Though you’ll find many local and national companies, rest assured that most of them get their equipment from the same providers. There isn’t much advantage there. Where the advantages come in are via customer service and alerting you of trouble. Make sure you compare company protocols to find the ones that serve you best.

2)            Use blinds in your windows and doors. Views are nice, but remember that if you can see out, others can see in. Showing the neighborhood what you own is like inviting a burglar to find exactly what they want in one place. Use blinds to keep your items out of view. Don’t forget doors too- you can easily find stylish draperies and blinds to fit these too.

3)            Cut down your shrubs. Florida crime is on the rise and sometimes shrubs can help to make it easier to rob a house. A window blocked by a thick shrub is a great way for burglars to work their way inside. You want your neighbors to be able to see a clear view of the most obvious ways into your house so they can report any odd behaviors.

4)            Keep new expensive purchases out of sight. Most people make large purchases like new televisions, stereo systems or video game systems and leave the boxes on the front lawn for trash pick-up. In particular during the holidays this can be a huge issue. You are basically telling the neighborhood what you have. Dispose of these boxes at a public yard, or break down the boxes so they fit in a container.

5)            Motion sensors are helpful. Along with a security system, consider motion sensors. These are great tools for warding off anyone crouching in bushes or trying to sneak around your house. They immediately illuminate their way. The best thing about them is that they are easy to install and cost effective.

6)            Theft insurance. Getting theft insurance is always wise. There are three basic types: burglary, robbery and other thefts. Burglary is taking property within premises that are locked off and requires signs of forced entry. If you are a homeowner, having theft insurance can help to mitigate an intrusion.

Since Florida crime is on the rise, it is necessary for homeowners and renters to protect their belongings. Finding ways to shore up your safety is going to pay off in the end.
